YEAR 9 OPTIONS RESOURCES 2008

We are offering 2 Geography GCSE courses at KES this coming year.

The first is a 'traditional' course, which has a piece of coursework and an exam at the end of Year 11.

Topics covered are:

RIVERS, COASTS AND TECTONICS

ENERGY AND ECONOMIC SYSTEMS

POPULATION AND SETTLEMENT

ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES

The second is a more 'modern' course, which has a more continuous form of assessment made up of much shorter focussed coursework pieces. This will be the model for the specification changes that will take place next year in all GCSE subjects.

Topics covered are:

Extreme Environments: Changes in Svalbard in the Arctic

My Place: King's Lynn within the UK

People as Consumers: What we buy makes a difference

Sustainable Transport: Exploring alternatives to the car

Cultural Geography: Culture in the UK / How places are represented in the media

This has an exam in Year 10, using a pre-release booklet.

The second course is supported by a nationally-recognised BLOG, containing over 500 postings of work, reading, images and supporting documents.

The GEOGRAPHYPAGES website is also used to support students.
