Start with my lower school GLOBALISATION page to get a taster for this topic and how it affects countries around the world, and impacts on the pupils' own lives.

China is expanding its economy at a rapid rate. The growth is fuelled by COAL. The impact of this is not only on the miners themselves, but on the environment. China is catching up with Japan. There is also talk of the CHINDIA axis: China and India as global superpowers (and polluters...)
Also heard of the term BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China)
An NIC or Newly Industrialising Country is one that has undergone rapid and successful industrialisation within the last 30 years.
Characterised by:
a) a rapidly increasing share of world manufacturing output
b) a significant growth in manufactured export production
c) significant average annual growth in manufacturing production
These countries generally go through 3 stages, which we shall explore in more detail.

Difficult to determine which are the TIGER economies, and whether they still exist, or are growling quite as they used to. There is no agreed definition: sometimes the term "tiger cubs" is used as well.
