ACID RAIN

All rain is acidic: a 'natural' consequence of falling through an atmosphere which contains sulphur and nitrogen oxides. There are more sites than I have listed here. More to follow when time permits.

Most of Scandinavia has been affected. A mapping exercise looking at net exporters and importers of Sulphur dioxide is a useful one. This will involve some information on emissions and deposition of sulphur dioxide and other particulates.

I bought an excellent pack on Acid Rain from the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) which I've used for the last 10 years. It has plenty of information on the spread of pollution across borders, and the methods employed in Scandinavia to reduce the impact, plus the mapping exercise I referred to above.

Some IGC resources here.

Try the American EPA site for information on the effects of ACID RAIN on water when the particulate pollution falls into the water.

The Norwegian STATE OF THE ENVIRONMENT site has some useful information.

Loch GRANNOCH is a loch in Dumfries and Galloway. The loch has undergone acidification. The population of Arctic Charr has been declining.

There is a document relating to the loss of fish in the loch which can be used with groups HERE.
