Chamonix is a resort nestling beneath the Mont Blanc massif. It has undergone dramatic change over the last 50 years or so, since people started to arrive in large numbers. There are other resorts close by.

• The best place to start is with the OFFICIAL WEBSITE of the CHAMONIX VALLEY which is available in a number of languages. The full website is available in English...which is nice.

It includes a wide range of useful information for anyone doing a project on the area. It includes a PDF DOWNLOADS area with Summer and Winter guides, maps of the skiing and snowboarding routes, and maps of downtown Chamonix showing tourist attractions and accommodation.

An idea of the range of apres-ski activities can be gained from a visit to the website.

• Some interesting notes from a TOURISM SUMMIT in 2001. This looks at the aspirations of local people and the effect of tourism on their lives.
