It is the largest of China's 4 provincial-level municipalities.

The River Yangtze runs through the city, and it is close to the 3 GORGES DAM.

Also locally are the famous DAZU rock carvings high in the mountains that surround the city.

It's a major industrial centre, and the area in and around the city has a population of over 30 million.

    1. Machine-building industry (automobile and motorcycle manufacture)
    2. Chemical industry (petrochemical and pharmaceutical chemistry)
    3. Metallurgical industry (quality steels and aluminium)
