COLLABORATIVE PROJECTS BY TONY CASSIDY

Tony Cassidy is running a few collaborative projects as part of his research for his MA at the IoE in London. Some of these projects will appear here. Recently, we had the CLOUDS AT MID-DAY project. CD contains the FULL and the MINI version of the final video. Watch out for some others soon....

BBC / NATIONAL ARCHIVES RELEASES

The BBC is making some of its content freely available for people to use.

National Archives is also releasing some classic PUBLIC INFORMATION FILMS from the 1950s for you to watch. These are great documents.

SAGT RESOURCES 2005

Go HERE for my illustrated diary of my trip to Dundee.

"The habit of giving only enhances the desire to give."  Walt Whitman

This area is one I developed at my workshop at the SAGT Conference in Dundee on 29th October 2005.

If you attended the workshop (or even if you didn't, why not e-mail me a resource you've produced, particularly if it's an IWB one. This will then go towards developing a collaborative resource which I will make available. Many thanks to all who attended for their positive comments and contributions.

Please don't hesitate to e-mail if you want to follow up anything from the conference...

Collaboration

'Magic Realism' is a term I use relating to the use of the internet to bring the world into the classroom. The Internet allows teachers to collaborate and share their efforts. These can be viewed as being 'Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind': not with teachers in their own schools, or own area, but with those from other schools (not planets...)

The Internet allows teachers to save time, and to be exposed to new ideas which can engage students and reinvigorate their pedagogical practices.

We all 'reinvent the wheel' on a daily basis, and it makes sense to share our efforts. This job is hard enough as it is. If I can download a resource and save my Sunday afternoon then that is a job well done! I hope I can save a lot of people's Sunday afternoons...

One of my themes is that a few years ago I was 'sleep teaching' a little (in the same way as Jamie Oliver currently talks about us 'sleep shopping') and the Internet and the people I have contacted me through it have woken up my teaching.

It was good to be called a 'treasure trove' of ideas by Val as she introduced my 2nd seminar.

WEBSITES

http://eclectech.co.uk/words.php - Riddle maker - share and enjoy!

http://www.pleaseenjoy.com - Ji Lee's site with captioning / bubbles project - you can see the results of his efforts at placing 15 000 blank speech bubbles on posters around New York - use the bubbles to caption images in a collaborative display, even amongst the whole of a year group on a theme such as global warming - give children their voice back (as per the Friends of the Earth Climate Change ad, which I will also be showing  as part of my seminar)

The POWERPOINT presentation I used is almost 20Mb so won't be included here for download as the last time I did that most of my bandwidth went in about 3 days.... It will be on the CD though (see below...) with some of the images removed in case of copyright problems.

http://www.flickr.com - PHOTO SHARING SITE

http://flagrantdisregard.com/flickr - the home of the wonderful FLICKR TOOLS which allows you to manipulate images in lots of great creative ways

http://earth.google.com - GET GOOGLE EARTH - assuming you haven't already...

Andrew Field is behind the CONTENT GENERATOR site. This offers some FREE downloads of BETA versions of games, and some others to purchase at the very reasonable price of £24.99.

http://www.picasa.com and http://www.hello.com - PICTURE ORGANISATION AND SHARING

http://www.sln.org.uk/geography - the SLN site with its FORUM is a key resource for sharing in the UK - there are over 16 000

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk - has just released a range of Public Information Films from the 1940's and 1950's. One that is of particular interest is one I've seen snippets of before in a programme about New Towns. It has an effective animation showing the growth of London, and the need for a green belt. It's called "Charley in New Town" and dates from 1948.

Another SAGT page, which is very similar to this one, which I made for some reason is also available.

MANY THANKS TO ALL THOSE DELEGATES WHO PROVIDED RESOURCES !!

3 other presenters are also making some of their resources available online:

OLLIE BRAY is continuing his fascinating blog at EX-CEL. He is posting on an almost daily basis. This is also featured in a SCOTTISH BLOG aggregator.

NOEL JENKINS has a page on his JUICY GEOGRAPHY website which has a range of resources relating to his SWEATSHIRTS game. This is an excellent simulation - fully formed with all the relevant resources.

DAVID RAYNER has made available an excellent page which features a wide range of resources that he used at his informative presentation. What I found fascinating as I popped into several of the seminars was the wide variety of styles of presentation and content and yet we were all succeeding at what were were doing (in my opinion...)

I also made sure that my journey up to Scotland didn't harm the environment.

I went on the CLIMATE CARE website, and worked out how much it would cost to OFFSET the cost of my flight.

The site told me that I needed to pay £5 as my share of the aircraft emissions.
