SAND DUNE PLANTS

The sand dune plants were identified using a picture key, as produced by Field Studies Council. The key organised the plants by position relative to the front of the dune system.

At the strand line we might expect to see:

SEA ROCKET

LYME GRASS

MARRAM GRASS

SEA COUCH GRASS

As we progress into the embryo dunes, we can expect to see:

SEA BINDWEED

SEA SPURGE

Into the mobile dunes, and we may start to see:

SAND SEDGE

RAGWORT

SEA HOLLY

As the dunes become semi-fixed, these might be added to by:

DANDELIONS and THISTLES

LESSER HAWKBIT

MOUSE EAR HAWKWEED

Plants become more flowering and bushy towards the back of the fixed dunes.
