Lesson prepared for a period of absence which involved group in producing a newspaper at the end of some work on favelas which, for some groups, involved constructing their own favelas out of cardboard and other materials.
Start up Word or Publisher, and get a blank page. Not now, finish reading the instructions first.
Start to produce a newspaper front page. You'll need a title for the paper, date, price etc., then a main headline.
You should already have your newspaper story prepared last lesson. If you were away, ask someone, or work with someone for today. The work on Mauro would be fine.
The main story needs to have some information on life in the favelas. There should be an 'interview' (made up), and some relevant clip art (if you can get it to load..)
Here are a few websites you may find useful:
Clicking on these links will take you there (use the back button to come back to me...)
MONTE AZUL - details on a particular favela
GO HERE for details on Rocinha: the favela in Rio featured in last lesson's video, which is the largest favela in Brazil
A more GCSE level ARTICLE which may be useful for some of you can be found here.
BASIC INFORMATION AND MAPS of Brazil which you could use are here.
There are now FAVELA TOURS which tourists to the city can take.
For IMAGES: not just of favelas but of anything, I recommend GOOGLE IMAGE SEARCH. Go to the normal GOOGLE page, and click on the IMAGES TAB.
There can also be a few other stories, or news boxes e.g a bit of Brazilian sport perhaps, or other events in the country.
Save the article in your own folder, in Humanities/AP folder. I suggest you don't print any copies just yet.
Aim to finish by the end of the lesson - remember that all newspaper editors have a deadline to work to. The paper has to be ready on time!
