SALT MARSH PLANTS

Plants were identified using a picture key, or by following through a series of questions.

Starting from the top of the marsh, the likely plants encountered were:

Shrubby Seablite (Suaeda Vera) - only shrub to grow on the saltmarsh: likely to be the tallest plant - up to 1m tall - we saw this also on the embryo marsh at Holkham

Bluish-green, but often becomes purple and red. Fleshy annual. Leaves 5-18mm long

Sea Rush

Sea Aster

Sea Lavender

Samphire - Sallicornia

Annual Seablite

Cord Grass

Pictures of most of these plants can be found HERE.
