1. Visit the GLACIER ICE site:

a) What is meant by the term cryosphere ?

b) How does snow become glacier ice ?

2. Visit PETER KNIGHT's excellent site, which has loads of useful images.

c) Click on Virtual Lectures, and work through the lecture on An Introduction to Geomorphology, Glaciers and Landscape.

An example of some of the excellent photos available on PETER KNIGHT's website (see link above) - he wisely values the importance of free educational resources online, and is also the founder of the Enjoyment of Glaciers Group. Raised beaches.

3. Explore some of the other sites from Geographypages' list:

d) Locate examples of each of the types of glacier e.g. corrie, valley - with a photograph if possible

e) Provide information about the current ice masses on the Earth. Where are the largest accumulations of ice ? An image or table of information is required.

f) Start to plan an answer to the following question:

Outline the processes which cause the transition from interglacial to glacial conditions.
