Go to SLIDESHARE to get the PRESENTATION
Here's the title slide as a taster...
ANIMOTO MOVIE (alternative version)
Useful resource: GeoActive 394: "2007 Flooding in England and Wales" - Garrett Nagle
High Tech Flood Warnings - Simon Oakes - "Geography Review" - September 2006
Report on flooding failures...has some comments to make on the role of the Environment Agency
The Environment Agency is the government agency charged with flood protection (river and marine) from flooding
The PITT REVIEW is also now available to download.
The GA has done some work with RIDO: the Rotherham Investment and Development Office
The GOOGLE MAP that has been produced is HERE.

The area that was most affected was the area of South Yorkshire which includes Sheffield (including Meadowhall), Rotherham and Doncaster, across as far as Hull. This is my home area, and I know a lot of the areas that were affected, having been to university in Hull, and now working in Sheffield. Also spent quite a bit of time in Doncaster over the years...
Hint: If you have Sky, and some major event has happened in a part of the country where you don't live, make sure that you check out the regional news magazines at around 6.30 pm that evening for useful video material...
Added a new YOU TUBE page of videos on the flood... Download them with ZAMZAR for classroom use. There are plenty more of course...
Gorgeous Geography - a nice idea with a Google Earth overlay
http://gorgeousgeography.wordpress.com/2007/06/29/flood-june-2007/
SKY NEWS also did something similar.
A very large selection of YOU TUBE videos is also available - there's a link from Melanie's page above to some of these - I like the one where the police van gets stuck.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6255522.stm - a useful article on Winn Gardens in Sheffield, which featured on the local news...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6254960.stm - cost of floods likely to top £1 billion ! (in fact it was nearer to £3 billion)
Also check out the resources that can be downloaded (and free booklets ordered in bulk if necessary) from the ENVIRONMENT AGENCY page. Remember that when the flood waters recede the trouble doesn't stop.
NEWSPAPER ARTICLES
The Times: 18/12/07 - "The next time the floods come we've got to be better prepared"
BBC News website: June 2007 - "Flooding takes its toll on farms"
There was also a useful book published by the Sheffield Star. I have a copy of that.

SHEFFIELD FLOODING PAGE - Rob Hindle Poetry
A link to an earlier flood, caused by a very different event...
