Coming Soon: Details of Revision Sessions
A key element of GCSE success is the ability to learn and use CASE STUDIES: the exemplars that are used to explore particular parts of the syllabus in their locational context. Many students have difficulty remembering these. We use a check list system: 4 small A5 booklets: one for each of the 4 areas of the OCR syllabus, and each with UK, Europe and World maps to locate the case studies. We go through them all in the run up to study leave. These can also be built up during the course of the year.
You can now download some sample worksheets for the use with the new UK Places edition from the Stanley Thornes website. This has links to the Wider World book which also has a grid to show which pages and sections of the textbook are relevant to each of the syllabuses.
LEARN.CO.UK has a list of useful FACTSHEETS and revision materials for a range of Key Stage 4 topics. Each one comes with a brief online test which you can enter answers and submit for an immediate mark. These would be good for homeworks and revision notes.

I also recommend visiting and making use of the revision notes and Power point presentations available at Northern Ireland's SLEMISH COLLEGE.
The SCALLOWAY site is based around Scottish exams, but may be useful.
Go HERE for a sheet with an e-mail proforma which can be used with groups to send an e-mail to someone in relation to an event that has happened. I use this with respect to work on flooding, where they e-mail someone to explain the effects on their house, and perhaps following witnessing an earthquake or a volcanic eruption. I also use a TEXT MESSAGE sheet which has a picture of a mobile phone and space to fill in a text message about something. Not sure what the literacy coordinator would have to say about it though...
If you're introducing an issue, there's nothing like a CARTOON image to make a point. Not a picture of MARINE BOY, but a cartoon with a theme... There are hundreds of cartoons which you can get the rights to use for a small fee at CARTOON STOCK. There is a huge range of topics to choose - transport, industry etc.
