MAKE POVERTY HISTORY

Visit the website for all sorts of resources, including the 'CLICK' video

Head to the website, and download a letter to TONY BLAIR hich you may want to get your pupils to send. Please note that this is not a political statement against the Labour party. They happen to be in Government at the moment.... It's too late to send your BUDDIES now.

Order your wristbands from the OXFAM shop or from FAIRTRADE retailers. Don't buy them from other sources as you may not be able to guarantee that the money goes to the campaign. This goes for other types of charity wristbands too...

More on the campaign at the OXFAM COOL PLANET site too.

Make sure you have your white wristband !

Add your name to this project too.

Head over to SEND MY FRIEND. This is a website in association with Comic Relief, and students are encouraged to make a BUDDY - there are a series of templates - to represent one of the 100 million children who are missing out on their education every day (remember that Education for all is one of the UN's Millennium Goals)

Interesting article found via blog which suggested that the white wristbands which are the symbol of the campaign were made by poorly paid factory workers. Does anyone have any information to substantiate this ?

LIVE 8 CONCERTS

Following on from the Live Aid concerts, Bob Geldof and friends once again organised a series of fund raising concerts in different locations around the globe. Responding to criticisms that most of the acts were white, Peter Gabriel was apparently asked to assist in the creation of a concert at the Eden Project in Cornwall, called Africa calling. Over 2 million people sent a  text to the number to be in with the chance of a ticket for the concerts. Pink Floyd even reformed for the event (the only thing that would have got me to put up with some of the earlier rubbish...)

G8 SUMMIT

This is to be held at Gleneagles Hotel. A rather excellent POWERPOINT on the issues is being hosted by David Rayner at the GEO INTERACTIVE site on the SLN EMERGENCY page. Interesting articles in most of the major broadsheets. Worth starting a clippings collection on this theme. There are 2 major issues being discussed: AFRICA and GLOBAL WARMING.

A colleague passed by Gleneagles the week before the summit and saw the huge fence surrounding the site. Another colleague was in Edinburgh for the MPH march.
