THE GEOGRAPHY OF MOTORWAY SERVICE STATIONS & DISTRIBUTION WAREHOUSES
There are 3 companies involved in running Motorway service stations.
If you have ever made a long journey on the UK motorway network you may have felt that urge for a Burger King, or perhaps been nagged from the back seat: "Daaad!" - perhaps it was you doing the nagging....

Obviously, like any industry, thought has to go into the LOCATION or SITING of the service areas.
Where would be a good location for a service area ?
Are there any possible restrictions that you can think of ?
There are alternatives to stopping at a service station. One useful site is 5 MINUTES AWAY. This gives some alternative places to rest within 5 minutes of each motorway junction. Click the picture below to check it out....
DISTRIBUTION WAREHOUSES
A growing trend is for companies to have several large warehouses in key locations on the motorway network.
ARGOS is one such company.
WILKINSONs has a large warehouse on the A57, just off the A1

M25
Using the BBC LONDON TRANSPORT page you could explore the extent to which congestion is affecting the M25 on a typical day. If you have a lesson first thing, the RUSH HOUR is probably still occurring..
Long on to THIS PAGE, and use the JAM CAMS to spot the queues and plot them on a blank outline map, then play the COMMUTER GAME.
Or check out the HIGHWAYS AGENCY site.
