STUDENT RESPONSE SYSTEM: QWIZDOM PAGE

We have just received the Class Act SRS System / Qwizdom, as produced by L.J Group.

This is a system which involves each pupil being given a Qwizdom handset: a wireless remote which transmits and receives using infra red with the teacher having a special unit attached to their computer by USB. Questions are embedded into Powerpoint presentations, and when a question slide is shown on the screen, pupils need to press the appropriate button. Scores are recorded and displayed graphically.

Questions can take one of several forms:

Question slides are created easily using the QUIZ CREATOR software which comes along with the handsets (and some example presentations)

Remote control handset. This is the Student remote: there is also a grey Teacher version. These come in a foam packed holdall which is easily portable between classrooms.

The teacher's handset allows a teacher to call up other features, including asking individual pupils questions.

There are several places where you can find information about the use and possible benefits of the student response system (SRS) - after all, it could be argued that it should only be used if there is a reason for it. After all, we have to account for everything we do these days....

QWIZDOM MATERIALS

"Qwizdom UK has an extensive range of comprehensive Curriculum materials" it says on the website. They apparently have some KS3 materials available for £325 (eLCs can be used) and a large 8-11 years set of materials.

I shall add some materials at some stage. One issue is that of copyright. I have images that I use which aren't necessarily copyright free for distribution outside of the establishment.

I also have lots of images where that isn't a problem, but also need to be wary of the large download figures I had the last time I put a load of powerpoints up.

Thanks to Terry Mansfield for giving me some that he'd produced.
