SUBURBS

The Suburbs... a mythical place.
Suburbs were the subject of a recent article in 'The Times' which had a few very useful sources and quotes relating to our views of the suburbs, which have changed over the year. 'The Times' itself, in 1904 warned that suburbanisation is:
"to produce a district of appalling monotony, ugliness and dullness"
It also mentioned C.E.M Joad who wrote (in 1931) in "The Horrors of the Countryside" of:
"drab and squalid" suburbs & "the scurf of villas and bungalows"
Here are some ideas for discussing relating to suburbs:
What sort of people live in the suburbs ?
What problems do leylandii hedges cause (and how do you pronounce it...)
Why do all suburban houses have the same pre-pack conservatories...
Do all families own an SUV which never gets 'off road'...
If someone walks down a street are the net curtains twitching, and Neighbourhood Watch schemes ringing round
The suburbs are the background to 'The Stepford Wives' - a film which has just had a remake.
The suburbs are also likely to see a major increase in traffic over the next 2 decades.
