COOL TEXT - this is a rather good site. You go to it, and type in some text and choose some options and you can then see the results straight away, and these are then available to save to disc and use on your website - used it for the Geo Blogs logo on the site
3D TEXT MAKER - similar to the above site
TEMPLATEMONSTER
GUI STUFF - one of the best sites for free applications to add to your website - a very stylish site which allows you to copy sections of script to produce results
A1 JAVA SCRIPTS
DYNAMIC DRIVE - another good site which has a range of free scripts which you can customise to your own requirements. I copied some and am doing some experiments with drop down menus - I'll let you know the results...

For a book with some useful advice on how to design your site, I've been using:
"Front Page for Busy People': C. Crumlish (Osborne, 1999) ISBN: 0 07 211981 0
Useful information on planning for the curriculum can be found at the SKILLS FACTORY site.
I recommend a very useful textbook, which was recommended to me in turn. It's called " Fundamental Web Design and Development Skills " and is published by Glasshaus. ISBN: 1 904151 17 5 From their 'Tools of the Trade' series, it has some excellent details on developing a web site and learning HTML skills.
Some FRONT PAGE TUTORIALS are available at the BEGINNERS site.
The BBC have a WEBSITE called WEBWISE which offers a series of 8 units (with further extension materials) which work as an ONLINE COURSE.
